Postdoctoral Researchers

We are currently recruiting a postdoctoral fellow for projects related to red cell biomechanics, transfusion medicine, blood storage, and malaria parasitology. The position is intended for an individual with a PhD in cell biology, biochemistry, physiology, or pharmacology with experience in aseptic technique, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, murine models, blood and blood cells, and biochemistry of the cell membrane. Applicants must be highly motivated, creative, and independent researchers with desire to work in an interdisciplinary environment. Verbal and written communication skills in English are essential.

The ideal candidate should be able to take a leading role in the project and develop a unique set of skills at the intersection of microfluidics and life sciences. The successful candidate will contribute in the areas of hypothesis formulation, experiment design, supervision of laboratory personnel, management of collaborative projects, and preparation of manuscripts and grant proposals. Competitive salary with benefits is provided through grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Initial appointment is for one year with the potential to renew annually.

Graduate Students

Every year, we accept new graduate students into our group through graduate programs in Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. Admission is highly selective. We welcome motivated, creative, and hands-on students with backgrounds in Engineering Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Bioengineering, and Chemical Engineering. We take on undergraduate research assistants every year through co-op and internship programs from various Canadian and foreign universities. Canadian applicants are expected to apply for the NSERC USRA program.
